Wambo Bar

On the North Fork of Yuba River, in Yuba County, near Deadwood Creek. It appeared on an 1853 map as Wambaugh Bar, apparently named for M. N. Wambaugh, who came to California in 1846 and was the wagonmaster of an immigrant train in 1848. J. D. Borthwick, the English miner and artist, gives an interesting account of his stay in 1852. Charles E. De Long collected taxes here on March 19, 1855. "According to the Marysville Directory of 1858, the bar gave fortunes to some miners and was still worked in a limited way in 1858. John E. Ross claims to have discovered these and other diggings in 1849."
