Mountain House


In Sierra County on Brush Creek. It was a well known stage stop on the Sierra Turnpike. In the 1850s it was mentioned as an election precinct, and a water-driven mill was listed in 1858. A steam-driven 10-stamp mill was built in 1868. Near the camp a nugget worth $1,770 was found. The Brush Creek Ledge was mentioned as the richest ledge in California in 1868. A Mountain House Mine was listed in the reports of the Mining Bureau until 1942.
