The hot sun reflects off both sides of the canyon and here it is a school day and we are nekked in the refreshing water of the Scout Hole. Too soon the leader, with a watch, urges us up the hill to where a creek trickles in this little gully. It is filled with ferns which we gather and carry into the Masonic Hall and about 2:30 I noted that we were not admonished for taking so much time, rather we were complimented on the beauty of the harvest because the teachers already knew about the tiger lilies being gone. I gathered then this day waas a tradition for the school. Leland and I both were sent home to clean up so we could deliver the co-valedictorian speeches as listed in the program. We talked on the history of Camptonville and I had "Lester Allen Pelton, inventor of the water wheel that bears his name". I thought I was pretty good. |
