Flying

By 1936 in C'ville when Leland and I were in the 6th grade, we discovered the thrilling world of aerial warfare of World War I as recorded in the pulp magazines like G-8 and His Battle Aces, Flying Aces, Air Trails & Flying, Dare Devil Aces, and Wings.

With our heads in the clouds we made flying models and practiced flying in our imagination by mentally moving the controls that 'flew' our bodies up the cut bans, around the corner in a sharp bank and flattened out the 'glide' for a landing! We loved any movie that featured airplanes, especially 'Flying Down to Rio' (1933) which even had a four-engine flying boat!
