Cut-eye Foster Bar

A camp in Sierra County on the North Fork of Yuba River, below Goodyears Bar. "According to the County History, 1882 (p. 421), Foster was reputedly a professional horse thief, who employed a number of Indians to carry on his business. Downie describes him as philanthropic but dishonest. Newton Miller mined at the place from January, 1851, to July, 1852, and he gives a good description in his letters. In July, 1851, he built a wing dam with his partners, and the prospects were 'too good to believe.'"
