Leland Pauly talks about the Brandy City Trail
(movie file)

In Sierra County on Cherokee Creek, a tributary to the North Fork of Yuba River. The original name of the place was Strychnine City. Gold was discovered here after the Gold Lake hunt of 1850. Charles E. De Long described the place on June 16, 1857. There was a large suspension flume over Brandy Gulch. Extensive hydraulic mining occurred there in the 1850s, with a renewal of such mining in the early 1920s. There was still a school there then. The post office existed until 1926.
